Nestled at the base of the Tenmile Range, Breckenridge is a picturesque mountain town with a colourful Main Street, renowned for its Victorian architecture and friendly, laid-back vibe.The Number One choice for British skiers to Colorado, the appeal of a ski holiday to Breckenridge is obvious. WHAT IS THE SKIING LIKE AT breckenridge?
Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado is a skiers’ playground: 2,908 acres across five peaks, 187 trails from gentle greens to steep expert chutes, and 35 lifts topping out at nearly 13,000 ft via North America’s highest chairlift, the Imperial Express. Its high-altitude location ensures light, dry snow averaging 355″ per year. Terrain spans cruisers, challenging bowls, glades, and terrain parks, ideal for all levels.
Beginners
Breckenridge ski area is particularly welcoming for newcomers to skiing. Peaks 8 and 9 offer wide, gentle green trails that are ideal for building confidence. The Quicksilver Superchair on Peak 9 and the learning zones at the base areas provide designated beginner terrain, and the ski school has highly recommended instructors. Trails like Trygve’s and Silverthorne, along with the Four O'Clock run, are perfect for first-timers and families.
Intermediates
Intermediate skiers have abundant choices, with over 30% of the resort’s runs rated as blue, offering both mellow and more challenging terrain. Peaks 7, 8, and 9 are packed with well-groomed blue runs and allow intermediates to gradually progress to longer descents and varied terrain, including tree runs like The Burn and famed blues such as Bonanza, Briar Rose, and Gold King on Peak 9. Peak 6’s rolling blues offer more of a high-altitude adventure for those ready for a step up.
Advanced & Expert Skiers
Skiing at Breckenridge is famous for its expert terrain. About 24% of the resort is advanced and 34% is expert. Peak 8 and Peak 10 offer steep mogul fields, bowls, and legendary chutes like Lake Chutes and Whale’s Tail. Advanced skiers can tackle double-black diamond bowls, tree runs, terrain parks, and off-piste adventure, with challenging routes concentrated on the upper sections of Peaks 6, 8, and 10.
To make the most of your lift pass, you must take in a visit to Keystone ski resort either by day or by night approx. 30 min away, covered by the same pass. However, we recommend that you leave at least a day or two for nearby Copper Mountain which is a real gem of a ski mountain though you do need to buy a separate lift ticket for this resort.

Breckenridge Ski Resort is very suitable for families, offering a wide array of family-friendly amenities, accommodations, and activities that cater to all ages. The resort features multiple lodging options ideal for families such as Grand Colorado on Peak 8 and One Ski Hill Place, both offering ski-in/ski-out access, heated pools, kids' zones, game rooms, and spacious suites with full kitchens for comfort and convenience.
For skiing, Breckenridge has dedicated family and beginner-friendly terrain, including designated family zones that allow members to ski together at a comfortable pace, as well as an excellent ski school with lessons tailored for kids and beginners. The resort also offers a variety of winter activities beyond skiing that appeal to families, such as sledding at Carter Park, ice skating at Stephen C. West Ice Arena, snowmobile tours, dog sled rides, and tubing, ensuring there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.
After skiing, families can enjoy kid-friendly dining options and entertainment venues like movie lounges and arcades.
