Getting to Steamboat

Beginners
Dedicated Learning Zones: Steamboat is very beginner-friendly, with 14% of the terrain specifically for novices. The SnowSports School at Greenhorn Ranch features dedicated beginner lifts, magic carpets, and world-class instructors. The base area and lifts like Thunderhead Express and Burgess Creek give access to long, gentle green runs such as Right-O-Way, Sundial to Broadway, and the famous “Why Not” trail, a 3-mile run meandering through aspen forests.
Progression: New skiers find a supportive, non-intimidating environment to gain confidence before graduating to longer mountain descents.
Intermediates
A Paradise for Blue Run Lovers: Intermediates can ski 40–42% of the resort, with nearly the entire 3,000+ acres open for adventure. The Sunshine Area features the best groomed cruisers, while Sundown and Storm Peak offer wide blues like Buddy’s Run—Steamboat’s legendary continuous blue trail. Blue and blue-black trails are found across every peak, making it easy for progressing intermediates to explore the entire mountain.
More to Explore: Intermediates can even dip into gentle tree skiing or try powder in the Morningside Park and Sunshine Bowl areas, expanding their skills with variety and soft snow.
Advanced/Expert
Extensive Steep and Challenging Terrain: Steamboat’s expert terrain makes up 44–48% of its trails, including steep bump runs, glades, chutes, and expert-only areas. Mahogany Ridge and Fish Creek Canyon deliver 650 new acres of rugged, off-piste adventure featuring rock cliffs, avalanche-prone chutes, and some of the best glade skiing anywhere—particularly in the renowned Shadows and Closets runs.
Freestyle & Night Skiing: Six terrain parks, including the Mavericks Superpipe, offer a playground for advanced freestyle skiers and riders. Night skiing on selected runs adds more fun for advanced families and groups.
