WHAT IS THE SKIING LIKE AT Mammoth resort?


Mammoth Mountain delivers jaw‑dropping Sierra Nevada views, legendary powder, and a season that stretches from November well into June (sometimes July) thanks to its 11,053 ft summit and 400″ average snowfall. With 3,500 acres and 150-175 trails spanning beginner to expert, plus acclaimed Unbound terrain parks, there's something for every skier. The modern lift network of 25 lifts, including high‑speed quads and gondolas, ensures fast access and fewer queues.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort offers terrain suitable for all skier levels with a distribution roughly as follows:

Beginners
About 30% of Mammoth’s terrain is beginner-friendly, featuring gentle slopes and dedicated learning areas near the base lodges where beginners can build confidence.

Intermediates
Intermediate runs make up the largest portion, approximately 50%, with wide groomed blue trails and tree-lined cruisers that allow skiers to progress comfortably and enjoy varied terrain.

Advanced and Experts
The remaining 20% of terrain is designated for advanced and expert skiers. This includes challenging steep chutes, bowls, moguls, and technical runs mostly found on the upper mountain and north side, such as Cornice Bowl and many double black diamond routes.

is Mammoth Mountain good for families?


Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort is highly suitable for families, offering a wealth of family-friendly amenities, activities, and services that cater to all ages. The resort features a well-regarded Ski and Snowboard School with group and private lessons, including beginner youth packages that cover instruction, gear rental, and lunch. Children aged 4 and under ski or board for free, making it very cost-effective for families.

For younger children and busy parents, Mammoth provides a state-licensed childcare facility in The Village, offering full-day and half-day care along with ski lesson/childcare package options. This service includes fun indoor and outdoor activities such as crafts, sledding, and gondola rides, keeping kids entertained and well cared for while adults enjoy the slopes.

Families also enjoy Woolly’s Tube Park & Snow Play area, which offers groomed tubing lanes with a magic carpet lift, snow play zones, and a heated deck with snacks and beverages. Beyond alpine skiing, there are cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails suitable for family excursions, as well as plenty of on-mountain and town dining options welcoming to children.
